INSIGHTS

Summer 2009 Reading Suggestions:

The Towering World of Jimmy Choo
by Lauren Goldstein Crowe & Sagra Maceira De Rosen
A captivating business story that examines the inspirational rise of the London based shoemaker to one of the most successful luxury brands in the world. As captured in one of the chapters "High Heels are Hard Work!"

Outliers
by Malcolm Gladwell
This fascinating book was recommended to me by a former colleague who has often debated with me on books that inspire thought instead of offering solutions. I found Outliers inspirational, soothing and highly informative. One of my favorite reads this year.

Setting The Table
by Danny Meyer
I had the pleasure of meeting Danny Meyer and it was fascinating to learn how one man's passion for hospitality can lead to great heights, while not losing touch with the basic principles of delighting every client. A real-life business story with many lessons for everyone.

The Harvard Business Review on Emerging Markets has compiled eight detailed and thoughtful essays. I particularly liked "Strategies That Fit Emerging Markets" by Tarun Khanna, Krishna G. Palepu, and Jayant Sinha.
If you enjoyed Isla Negra by Pablo Neruda, you may enjoy On the Blue Shore of Silence, a compilation of Neruda's poems of the sea. The book is a sensory delight with paintings by Mary Heebner and translations by Alastair Reid. I particularly enjoyed learning the expression "University of the Waves!"
